Patch Cards
Patch Cards are barcoded pages that are inserted into stacks of paper to be scanned. The barcodes are oversized to provide error-free recognition, and contain “scan-time” instructions to Optix. For example, a patch card can be used to rotate a landscape page as it is scanned, or to switch scanner settings. Patch cards are most often used in high volume production environments, and Optix makes it easy to create and use them anytime on any paper scanner.
Optix supports many types of instructions encoded into patch cards, and many accept user-specified arguments. Our “merge” patch cards allow you to specify a database key field. When Optix “sees” this patch card during scanning it automatically retrieves the record from the database using the key field and associates the newly scanned document with the record. This provides a very quick way to “image enable,” or attach paper documents to records from a legacy database. Our client workstation provides a quick tool for patch card creation and printing.
