Expertly Crafted is not a claim we make lightly.
In 1986, while employed as a computer systems scientist at Planning Research Corporation, Craig Landrum – Mindwrap’s co-founder and current CTO – was the project manager and lead developer for the Backfile Image Capture System, designed to scan the entire catalog of patents issued by the US Patent and Trademark Office. The patents were digitized using a state of the art double-sided CCD scanner at 300 dpi and stored to 6250 bpi magnetic tape attached to a Masscomp 65010-based Unix system, compressed to CCITT Group IV using the very first Kofax image compression boards. Over 30 terabytes of image data was captured in the USPTO’s secure, environmentally stabilized storage facility in a limestone cave near Reading, PA. The tapes were then loaded onto WORM disks in an array of Sony jukeboxes attached to a water-cooled IBM mainframe, allowing US Patent examiners equipped with Sun Unix-based workstations to rapidly search through the entire patent library during application processing. This large, successful system broke new ground in the document imaging industry, demonstrating the power and cost-effectiveness of an online, searchable document image database.
Recognition of the power of the USPTO system led to the founding of Mindwrap in 1988, with a mission to design and deploy document management and workflow systems based on powerful Unix servers, off-the-shelf Relational Database Management software, and PC-based user workstations. Jim Small – co-founder and President of Mindwrap – concentrated on server development with sophisticated connectors to all of the mainstream RDBMS packages while Craig Landrum worked to deploy end-user workstation applications using the latest GUI interfaces available on both Macintosh and Windows-based PCs. With the addition of new desktop size document scanners, the first Optix® systems were completed and delivered in 1990
Since those early pioneering days, Mindwrap systems have continued to evolve in both capability, ease-of-deployment, and integration with existing client business practices. Because each business evolves differently, we have found that the needs and requirements of each of our clients is also unique, requiring varying degrees of customization and integration with legacy software. To meet these demands, we have developed flexible integration strategies using standardized technology. From rapidly deployable XML-based indexing and workflow screens, to powerful cross-application scripting languages, well-structured server APIs, and system management dashboards, the suite of tools we can bring to bear to meet customer demands allows us to expertly craft precisely the solution you need. And after we deliver your system, you can depend on our expert in-house support and training staff to quickly address any issues and ensure that your system is kept up-to-date and productive with the latest software releases and user training.
